Session One

Building Relationships

Strong relationships are the foundation of effective management. This session focuses on communication strategies that build trust, collaboration, and mutual respect in the workplace. Participants will learn how to strengthen communication skills to build positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and vendors that have direct impact on their organization’s bottom line.

 

Session Two

The Art of Persuasion

Persuasion is a critical skill for managers who need to influence decisions, inspire teams, gain support for ideas, and affect the bottom line of the organization. This session explores rhetorical techniques, psychological principles, and strategic messaging to enhance persuasive communication. Participants will practice framing their messages for maximum impact in different professional scenarios.

 

Session Three

Managing Interpersonal Conflict

Conflict is inevitable in the workplace, but effective communication can mitigate its impact and even turn it into productive outcomes. This session equips managers with conflict-resolution strategies through effective communication, including de-escalation techniques, negotiation skills, and constructive feedback methods. Participants will learn to address conflicts proactively, especially regarding complaints and criticisms from staff or the public. The outcome of this session is to foster a more harmonious work environment.

 

Session Four

Leadership

Great leaders communicate with clarity, confidence, and vision. This session focuses on essential leadership communication skills, including inspiring teams, delivering compelling messages, and navigating organizational change. Participants will explore different leadership styles and develop their ability to motivate, guide, and influence others effectively. Enhance leadership communication skills to inspire teams, improve guest experience, and drive retail engagement.

The cost is free for DTOPBA members and their employees and $10 per class for all other participants.

If you cannot attend this fall session, no worries! We will be hosting this series again in 2025 after the holiday season!

Will I need a laptop or notebook?2024-09-03T12:16:28-05:00

We will provide a notebook and pens for all attendees. Laptops are not required, but you are welcome to bring one.

You are welcome to attend one or all sessions! Just be sure to RSVP for all people attending.

About the Instructor

 

David A Felix, Ph.D., J.D.

David A Felix, Ph.D., J.D., is the founder of Instructive Consulting Group and author of the book, Academic Success Through Communication. With a career spanning both academia and industry, Dr. Felix provides valuable insights and practical tools to help individuals succeed—from the classroom to the boardroom.

Dr. Felix earned his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law, where he also completed a Master’s degree in Communication. He later went on to earn his Ph.D. in communication, further deepening his cross-disciplinary expertise.

His professional background includes experience in radio, television, and film marketing at Disney. However, his true passion lies in education. Dr. Felix has taught English as a Second Language in the Czech Republic where he founded a successful tutoring business. 

Today, he lectures at colleges and universities throughout the Chicagoland area, and trains business professionals across industries in effective communication.
